My friend told me 'bout this book, apparently quite good, but I forgot the title?

One of the characters is: Asian (or Asian-American?) 5 ft, black hair, browish eyes, bubbly personality???

I am usually good at this sort of thing- but I would need a lot more.

My only guess would be Lisa Yee's book Stanford Wong flunks big time. Its a book for 6th - 8th graders.
