Because your hair is naturally very straight, I would say you would need at least 3-5" to work with, and maybe some beeswax to hold everything together.

long enough for the person who is braiding to catch it. Just go to a salon where they do that sort of thing the most accurate advice will be by the stylist. Or you'll have the option to add extensions to your hair......but I wouldn't do that.
